New bills will go into the mail in August Aug-ust with the old rate applying for the first 5 months and the new rate for the last 7 months of the year. Sheriff Theron Hall was at the council meeting to encourage the city to adopt a city employee retirement re-tirement plan which is being adopted adop-ted in many of the counties and cities of the state. The plan would require the city to pay so much and the employee to contribute a like sum with the retirement money being given at the age of 65 and after a certain length of time worked as a salaried em- $ ployee of the city. Further discussion discus-sion and information in this regard re-gard will be heard by the council at their Aug. 8 meeting when officers of-ficers from the county and state will be on hand to explain the plan. Also another business item discussed during the evening's session and acted upon was the authorization to make a thorough check of all city property and vehicles ve-hicles to see that they are properly prop-erly covered with adequate insur-I insur-I ance to prevent loss to the city should they meet with an accident of any kind.. Mayor Price pointed out that expensive machinery and equipment is being used in the water project and should an accident acci-dent occur in its construction, thousands of dollars may be lost without insurance coverage. |
