Ellis of this city has just returned from a three week's enjoyable trip to the East, traveling on the "Historic Train" with the Vida Fox Clawson Tour and gives the following interesting in-teresting account of the tour. "Colorado was our first stop and there we enjoyed a tour of the Mile High City of Denver. While in Kansas we visited the historical places as Liberty Jail, the graves of David Whitmer and Oliver Cowdery, the Temple Site, and the Reorganized Church Tabernacle. I was greatly impressed im-pressed with the visit to the old jail at Carthage, Illiniois, restored as it was at the time of the old martyrdom. At N a u v o o, the Beautiful, we visited the homes built by the Prophet, Brigham Young, Willard Richards, Lorenzo Snow, Jonathan Browning, Orson Hyde, Wilford Woodruff, John Taylor and others as well as the Mansion House, the Nauvoo House and the Times and Seasons building. build-ing. "The 'Tour' then departed from the Grand Central Station to arrive ar-rive in Washington, D.C. Here a tour was enjoyed through the government buildings including: U. S. Capitol, White House, Smithsonian Smith-sonian Institute, Bureau of Engraving, En-graving, etc. "After staying over night at the Mayflower Hotel Sister Clawson's Tour motored to the Arlington National Cemetery, Alexandria and Mt. Vernon. A night tour of the beautifully lighted Washington, Washing-ton, D.C. was also enjoyed. In Philadelphia a sight seeing tour of historic Philadelphia was made which included Congress Hall, Independence In-dependence ' Hall, Liberty Bell, Declaration Chamber, Betsy Ross house, etc. We enjoyed being in Philadelphia during the Republican Re-publican National Presidential Convention. This was an educational educa-tional experience to me. "Arriving next at Jersey City our 'Tour' ferried across the Hudson Hud-son River which afforded an inspiring in-spiring view of New York's Sky Line. After staying at the Hotel Victoria we enjoyed the sightseeing sight-seeing trip of Uptown New York, viewing the residential and educational educa-tional sections; Fifth Avenue's Fashion Shops; St. Patrick's Cathedral; the Cathedral of St. John the Divine; Grant's Tomb, etc. "A broadcast from Radio City, a tour of the N.B.C. Studios, a grand show at the "Music Hall" the greatest theater in N.Y., was I |
