Show Utah Goes Over Top In E Savings Bonds Utah joined the list of honor states of the Union with the final report of sales in the Opportunity Drive for the sale of U. S. Treasury Treas-ury savings bonds. Voluntary sales groups, inspired by patriotic urge, sold $4,433,423 ' worth of Series E Savings Bonds, against a state quota of $3,500,000 scoring 127 per cent of the state quota. Eighteen of the state's 29 counties coun-ties surpassed their individual quotas. San Juan County jumped to the forefront to lead the list with 251 per cent of its quota of $8,000 quota. Tooele County, which had headed the list almost from the beginning of the Drive was second with 193 per cent of its $70,000 quota, while Salt Lake County, with nearly half of the state's entire quota, sold 130 per cent of its $1,600,000 goal under the direction of C. E.. Gene Freeman, Free-man, chairman. Daggett County, with the lowest quota, only $1,500 sold only $127.00 in bonds, or 8 per cent of the county quota. "To the county bond sales groups, all .patriotic citizens donating do-nating their time and efforts, should go the credit for Utah's splendid showing in the Opportunity Opportun-ity Bond Drive," Charles L. Smith state chairman, announced. "We turned a deficit in 1948 into a victorious drive in 1949 and both Mr. H. C. Shoemaker, vice-chairman, and myself, are happy over the results." "We are deeply grateful for the efforts of the county chairmen, the men who directed the work from the state level, and to Mr. Clem S. Schramm, the state director dir-ector of U. S. Treasury bond sales division. We believe it was a toig job well done." The bond- sales were generally oversubscribed throughout the nation, na-tion, exceeding the $1,043,000,000 goal set for the nation. |
