Show Mapleton Jaycees Win First Half Honors In City Softball League Outstanding Games Played In League During Week; Players Selected For Tourney Mapleton's Jaycees walked off with the first half honors hon-ors in the city Softball league, winning eight games and losing los-ing one. Both the Firemen and VFV clubs counted five 5 ; This week's schedule ... With the second half of play now underway, Friday's schedule calls for the Mapleton Jaycees and the Springville Jaycees to square off in the night's opener at 8 p. m., while the Firemen will entertain the V. F. W. club at 9. Tuesday, August 3, the V. F. W. will meet the Mapleton Jaycees at 8 p. m, followed by the Fire-men-Springville Jaycees game at 9. Team Selected . . . A team has been selected from the city league to participate in, the county Softball tournament to be held in American Fork Aug. 7, 8, 9. Two teams from this tournament will go on to the state meet in Salt Lake City later in the month. Members selected from the city league include: Jack Canto, Bernell Jensen, Leonard Stone, Tim Marsh, Verl Jensen, Ivan Pierce, B. Watts, Cranmer, Glen Clark, Guy Bird, Bill King, ! Bill Ruff, Gordon Pierce, Ray i Klauck and Don Humphrey. Ber-I Ber-I nell Jensen and Bill Ruff will be 1 team managers. wins and four losses while the Jaycees held the bottom rung with three wins and six losses. This week's play has seen some fast and outstanding games in the league. Friday, the Mapleton Jay-cee Jay-cee club went the limit in turning back "Honey" Childs and the Springville Jaycees 2-1. Childs, who is here from California pitching pitch-ing for the Springville club, and Leonard Stone, stalwart performer on the mound for the Mapleton Jaycees, did a splendid pitching job for the team. In the other game Friday, the Firemen took a close contest from the V. F.t W. team, 9-7. Guy Bird pitched for the winners and Ivan Pierce chucked for the losers. Tuesday night, the Firemen, with Guy Bird pitching a beautiful game and being ably assisted by . his teammates, tipped Stone and j his leading Mapleton Jaycees in ' a well-played game, 5-4. The V. F. W. team pounded out a 10 to 3 win over the Springville Jaycees with the two Pierce boys pitching. Ivan chucked for the winners; Gordon, for the losers. |
