Show KOLOB SCOUTS TAKE j PART IN HUGE j CENTENNIAL CAMP j One of the most interesting sights seen in Salt Lake City dur- t ing the week of July 24 was the ; Centennial BoyScout camp on the Fort Douglas reservation. Here gathered some 4000 boys, the youth of western America and they camped on the identical trail i over which passed the Mormon . Pioneers entering Salt Lake valley one hundered years ago to the day. The youths were from 53 councils coun-cils representing Canada, New Mexico, Maryland, Idaho, Wash- ington, Nevada, Wyoming, Utah, Arizona, New Jersey, Texas, Cal-v. Cal-v. ifornia, Pennsylvania, Washington, D. C, Mexico, Colorado and Montana. Mon-tana. The five-day encampment j was highlighted by visits of Gov-; ernor Herbert B. Maw, President George Albert Smith, Rev. C. A. Fleming, President Salt Lake Ministerial Min-isterial Association; Rev. Alvin . Luchs, Rt. Rev. Arthur W. Moult- . on, Bishop Leonard Clark and Most Rev. Duane G. Hunt. In addition to taking part in the gigantic centennial parade, they visited the Centennial exposition grounds, saw "promised Valley" and enjoyed numerous other activities ac-tivities in which they participated. The Scouts also visited Hill Field. As the camp broke up and the boys were preparing to return home, all were of the unanimous opinion that Utah's mountains, deserts, canyons and forests were a marvelous attraction to Boy. Scouts, and all looked forward to return and enjoy friendly Utah's hospitality to a greater extent during dur-ing some future time. Attending the Camp from Kolob district were approximately 60 Scouts and officers. They were stationed sta-tioned at Camp Williams before going to Salt Lake camp. Wilford Manwaring, Kolob district dis-trict commissioner, was appointed to work with the supervisory staff of the entire senior Scout group, while Wilbur Wilson, R. L. Wilson, Leo Felix, Darwin Goodey, First ward leaders; Ferron Hales, Fourth ward, Sterling Ottesen, 'patrol 'pa-trol leader from the Second and Jay Bingham, were in charge of the three provisional troops. Leo Felix from the Kolob district, dis-trict, had the honor of leading the entire parade being directly behind be-hind the official car. |
