Show four Vacancies if Annapolis, Reports Senator WASHINGTON Senator Arthur V. Watkins (R-TJtah) will have four vacancies to fill at the United States Naval Academy at Anna polis, Md., for the 1950 school year and applicants will be designated on the basis of Civil Service Examinations Ex-aminations to be conducted November No-vember 15. Senator Watkins announced Thursday that persons desiring an appointment to the academy should make application to him Washington, D. C. No applications will be received after October 26th. In making application for the Civil Service examination, appli- S cants should state their names in full, names of parents, age of applicant, ap-plicant, schooling and residence-city, residence-city, county, and state. The Civil Service examinations, the Senator pointed out, will not qualify the candidates for Annapolis. Anna-polis. Those appointed by the Senator Sen-ator still must pass regular academy acad-emy tests. In adition to the mental qualifications qualifi-cations required of academy appointments, ap-pointments, each must be a bona-fide bona-fide resident of the state of Utah and a citizen of the United States. Federal law prohibits appointment of any but legal resident of the state represented by the Senator. Further, applicants should ascertain ascer-tain beforehand by undergoing a strict physical examination, that they are qualified to meet the physical phy-sical requirements at the Naval Academy. In addition, candidates for the academy "must be not less than seventeen years of age nor more than twenty-one years of age on April 1st of the calendar year in which they enter the academy." according to military regulations. Only exception to this age rule applies to candidates who have served honorably not less than one year in the armed forces. Such candidates may be admitted between be-tween the ages of seventeen and twenty-three years of age On the basis of the above mentioned men-tioned Civil Service examinations, Senator Watkins will appoint a principal and three alternates for each of the four vacancies. Should the principle fail to qualify, the appointment will fall to the first alternates then the second and finally the third alternate if the first three fail to qualify in order. All applicants will subsequently be notified of the places where examinations will be held. |
