Show '44 WINNERS REPEAT IN PREP TOURNEY I'rovo U'inH Class A Title Wasatfli of Heber, Cops Class IJ Honors In II. S. Meet Provo hiKh school and Wasatch High of He nor, winners of the UM4 state prep hoop title, did a repeat performance again this year to tuck away the honors In the slate meet concluded last Saturday Sat-urday night in the historic Des-eret Des-eret gym. Provo, class A winners, defeatde the surprise Jordan Beetdiggers 34-20 while the strong Wasatch B champs turned back American Fork 42-28 in a rout. Murray High captured B third-place third-place honors with a 38-34 win over Kp,mi: Fork. South Cache trampled tram-pled the listless Granite team under un-der 40-35 for third-place Class A honors. East High defeated Box Elder 47-32 and Delta downed Richfield 30-34 to win the consolation conso-lation prizes in the class A and B division, respectively. The tournament that has now been written in the prep annals, will be remembered for numerous tilings but probably more especially especial-ly because it was the last to be held in the Deseret gym. "The gym doesn't want the meet, because be-cause it cannot adequately accommodate accom-modate it, and because of the damage done around the plant by the seething mob trying to break into the place against the opposition opposi-tion of a staff of firemen and por linemen. "The Utah State H. S. Activities Association does not want the gym any more if the police and firemen are going to be there to turn away the cash customers by the thousands," it was stated. Following are the placements won by teams in the tourney: CLASS A First rrovo, Second Jordan, Third South Cache, Fourth East, Fifth Granite, Sixth Box Elder. CLASS B First Wasatch, Second American Amer-ican Fork, Third Murray, Fourth Delta, Fifth Spanish Fork, Sixth Richfield. |
