Show FIRE DESTROYS BEER PARLOR AND POOL ROOM One of the largest fires of the year occurred here Thursday night when Ell's Beer Parlor and pool room on Main street burned. The exact cause of the blaze was not determined, according to a report by Chief Hasting Smith. Damage was estimated at between be-tween $5,000 and $6,000, taking into consideration, the building, which was the property of Mrs. A. G. Peterson, and the equipment belonging to H. Bjarnson, manager mana-ger of Ell's. The building was in flames before be-fore the fire was detected by a passerby. Ray Peterson and wife and daughter were living in the apartment apart-ment on the second floor. Some of their clothes and furniture were damaged by the flames and smoke. Mrs. Peterson stated she had $1500 insurance on the building. Mrs. Peterson wishes to express through the Herald her appreciation apprecia-tion for the fine work of the firemen fire-men during the fire. She attributes attri-butes the saving of the second story of the building and other buildings in the block to the quick ' and efficient service rendered by members of the local volunteer fire department. |
