Show EMILY HATCH OBSERVES 84th BIRTHDAY Guest of honor at a dinner party Tuesday evening, Mrs. Emily Clegg Hatch, widow of Thadeus T. Hatch, and a pioneer resident of Springville, was feted by relatives and friends on the occasion of her eighty-fourth birthday. Also honored at the dinner party were her son, Theodore Hatch of Provo, and Mrs. Maude Benedict of Ogden, whose birthdays birth-days occur the same day as their mother's. Always active in L. D. S. church work, Mrs. Hatch was president of the First ward Y. W. M. I. A. and served as a Relief society teacher. A daughter of William and Sarah E. Oates Clegg, converts to the L. D. S. church, she was born November 26, 1856, in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England,' and came to f Utah With her nflvonta n loeq I crossing the ocean in an old sailing sail-ing vessel called "Sinashore." The family spent five months coming to Utah. An interesting incident which Mrs. Hatch tells is of the sailing vessel breaking into parts, and of the captain and crew being severely injured as the boat attempted at-tempted to return to England. Her description of when she arrived in Springville is interesting interest-ing in that she recalls only one store, a few dirt roads, and acres of sagebrush, with only here and there a log cabin to mark a town-site. town-site. Mrs. Hatch is a sweet, charming charm-ing woman, very active for her age and greatly loved by those who know her. She Is the mother of eight sons and daughters, Theodore Hatch of Provo, Mrs. Maude Benedict of Ogden, Mrs. Stella Wixon, Mrs. Myrtle Conover of Springville, Mrs. Adele Johnson and T. Le-Moyhe Le-Moyhe Hatch of Salt Lake City, Mrs. Leelyn Bjarnson . of San Diego, California, and Mrs. Ro-wena Ro-wena Stewart of Shoshone, Idaho. Also 33 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. |
