Show New Officers Sustained At Stake Conference Ernest A. Strong, local contractor con-tractor and a former bishop of the Second ward, was sustained president presi-dent of the stake, succeeding J. Emmett Bird, who has served since 1930. A. G. Peterson, first ward bishop, bish-op, was sustained first counselor, and Glen Sumsion, second counselor, counse-lor, succeeding A. W. Harmer and C. G. Salisbury. Bert Strong was sustained stake clerk, and Earl B. Sumsion, president of the high priests' quorum. With the reorganization of the stake presidency, the stake high councilmen were also released and the following new members sustained: sus-tained: William Wainwright, Victor Vic-tor Frandsen, Clifford Crandall, A. W. Cherrington, Leo A. Robertson, Robert-son, Frank Jensen, William Witney, Wit-ney, William T. Tew, Jacob Felix, Theron S. Hall, and Jess Whiting. The reorganization left three wards without bishops, when Bishop Bish-op Leo Robertson of the Fourth ward, and Bishop Frank Jensen of Mapleton ward, were made members of the high council, and Bishop A. G. Peterson of the First ward went into the stake presidency. presi-dency. Elder John A. Widtsoe of the Council of Twelve, officiated at the sustainment of the new officers, offi-cers, and he, with Harold B. Lee, also of the Council of Twelve, and Henry A. Smith of the Deseret News staff, represented the church general authorities at the general meetings. They were also here on Saturday evening to confer on general conference business. In addition to talks by the visiting visit-ing authorities, recently returned missionaries, Miss McKeon of Birdseye, Margaret Pierce, Eileen Felix and Phyllis Jensen spoke during the forenoon meeting. Music at this time was furnished by the M. I. A. double trio, accompanied by Mrs. V. C. Mendenhall, and by the stake Beehive girls. The new stake president also spoke, briefly. res'aent Music was iurnished by a dou ble quartet, with Mrs. Mary s Boyer, accompanist. The forenoon general session was preceded by a priesthood ses-sion ses-sion and a program was given by the stake Relief Society in the evening. Each of the conference sessions was very well attended. |
