Show I OFFICERS FOR RED CROSS ARE APPOINTED Additional officers for the Springville chapter of the American Ameri-can Red Cross have been appoint- ed during the past week, and are announced by Paul Haymond, chapter chairman, as follows: Home service chairman, Mrs. Maurice Anderson; home hygiene chairman, Mrs. Hannah Clyde; first aid chairman, Lee Miner; publicity chairman, Clarence Tut-tle; Tut-tle; disaster preparedness and relief, re-lief, chairman,, Emmett Bird. Allen E. Kolb, field representative represen-tative of the Red Cross for Utah, spent four days in Springville completing the organization and assisting the chapter in making plans for the year's activities. The chapter plans to hold a first aid class immediately, the date to be announced at once. The class will be open to persons who hold standard first aid cards and will consist of ten hours additional study of the advanced first aid course. Tentative plans were made for a Red Cross swim campaign some time during the summer for the purpose of teaching swimming and life-saving to both children and adults. Tentative arrangements arrange-ments were also made for teaching teach-ing a class in home hygiene and care of the sick, a course designed to train housewives in the care of sick people, infants, and aged people. Plans were also made to produce garments and knitted goods for war refugees as well as for -our own military hospitals. This work will be done under the direction of Mrs. Naomi Thorne. Mr. Haymond emphasized that the Red Cross is charged by its congressional charter with many responsibilities for the families of service men. Personal problems of both men in the cam'ps and of their families at home should be brought to the attention of the Red Cross. The Red Cross will assist in locating service men, in keeping the family advised of a trainee's progress when he becomes be-comes ill, in assisting with emergency emer-gency financial and medical problems prob-lems of the family, and in handling han-dling investigations required by army authorities. |
