Show CCC STRENGTH TO BE REDUCED Director James J. McEntee of the Civilian Conservation corps, said this week that the CCC's maximum max-imum enrollment of 300,000 will be cut to 273,000 between April 1 and July 1, and that 135 camps will be closed during that period. The action was necessary, he said, to bring CCC operations into line with the pending CCC appropriation ap-propriation bill which provides for 1,365 camps during the 1942 fiscal fis-cal year, compared with the present pres-ent 1,500. Only 15 camps, all in New England, have been definitely selected se-lected for closing. They were shut down on April 1, rather than June 30, McEntee said,, because of improved im-proved conditions in the area. |
