Show STATE MEET OF LEGION-AUX. OPENS IN PROVO Three-Day Convention Will Feature Full Program; Approximately 800 Expected The state convention of the American Am-erican Legion and Auxiliary opened open-ed today in Provo, and will continue con-tinue through Friday and Saturday Satur-day with a full program of meetings meet-ings and entertainment events planned. W. C. "Tom" Sawyer, superintendent superin-tendent of schools at Gilbert, Ariz., and national American Legion vice-commander, vice-commander, is scheduled as the principal guest speaker. A member of the Gilbert post, American Legion, Le-gion, he has a distinguished record in Legion service. The Legion and other affiliated organizations will participate in the convention, to which a total of approximately 800 persons are expected ex-pected to attend. Acting as official hosts will be the Provo Legion and Auxiliary. Registration of delegates, alternates, alter-nates, and guests was conducted at the Roberts hotel beginning at 9 a. m. today. The opening convention conven-tion session is scheduled for 2 o'clock at the Provo high school. Department Commander Ross G. Glasman of Ogden will call the convention con-vention to order and colors will be advanced under the direction of Kenneth W. Bailey of the Provo Legion. Mayor Maurice Harding of Provo Pro-vo and Commander Harold J. Mower of the Provo American Legion Le-gion post, will welcome convention conven-tion visitors. Weseley E. King, commander of the Salt Lake Post No. 2, and George E. Natter, Grand Chef de Gare, 40 & 8, will respond. A discussion of the American Legion's part in civilian defense will be given by C. S. Schramm of Salt Lake City, past department commander, at a conference and school of instruction for all post district and department officers at 3:15 p. m. At 5 p. m., a department depart-ment executive committee meeting meet-ing is scheduled, to be followed by a steak bake in Provo canyon at 6 o'clock. A show boat trip on Utah Lake at 9 p. m. will conclude the first day's events. Committee reports will highlight the 9 a. m. general session at the Paramount theatre Friday. After a brief recess, a joint memorial session with the Auxiliary will be conducted at 11 a. m., at the theatre thea-tre building. Mr. Sawyer will speak at this meeting, to which the public pub-lic is cordially invited. An employment meeting is scheduled sche-duled at 3 p. m. at the Provo high school, with reports on employment employ-ment problems occupying the spotlight. spot-light. Another boat cruise and boat races will be conducted at 7 p. m. The third general session is planned for 9 a. m. Saturday, at the Provo high school, at which final reports will be given and new officers elected. A Legion parade will be conducted con-ducted at 5:30 p. m. and a cruise on the lake at 8 p. m. will conclude con-clude the convention entertainment. |
