Show HOME CULTURE MEMBERS HEAR BOOK REVIEW A review of the book, "For Whom the Bells Toll," by Ernest Hemingway, was given by Mrs. D. B. Welch in a very interesting manner Friday evening at the Valley Val-ley Tavern, with Mrs. Helen Anderson An-derson acting as hostess. Luncheon was served after the book review to eighteen members and two guests, Mrs. Helen Dur-phy Dur-phy of Chicago and Mrs. George Anderson. S. T. CLUB MEMBERS TO MEET TOXIGHT S. T. club members will be guests of Mrs. Ella Crandall at her home this evening. All are asked to be present at eight o'clock. BENEFIT BANQUET AT MAPLETOX SUCCESSFUL Especially entertaining was the banquet held Wednesday night at Mapleton as the final benefit entertainment en-tertainment with the funds to be used for the completion of the church so that it will be ready for dedication in the near future. The banquet was under the direction di-rection of Leo Harmer and Elmer Bird, and Glen Holley was toast-master. toast-master. FRIEXDS EXJOY DELIGHTFUL EVEXIXG A group of friends enjoyed a delightful evening Monday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Ar-thur C. Boyer. Games, social conversation, and luncheon were enjoyed by Mr. and Mrs. Leo Crandall, Bishop and Mrs. Ernest A. Strong, Mr. and Mrs. Selvoy J. Boyer, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Crandall, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Dixon, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Alleman., Mr. and Mrs. Kelly Crandall, Lamar Boyer, and the host and hostess. THETA TAU CLUB ORGANIZED Booster and Novelty Circle Clubs Hold Annual Dinner Dance 1 A new club, the "Theta Tau," was organized Wednesday evening at the home of Mrs. Lois Miller. Mrs. Elva Tipton was elected president; Mrs. Fern Crandall, vice-president; and Mrs. Jean Brown, reporter. Plans were also discussed for the coming year's program. Max Simkins, recently returned missionary from South Africa, gave a talk on his missionary experiences ex-periences and showed souvenirs that he brought back with him. The hostess served a delicious luncheon from small tables centered cen-tered with orchid sweet peas. Members of the club are Mrs. Elva Tipton, Mrs. Fern Crandall, Mrs. Mary Sanford, Mrs. Berniece Rigtrup, Mrs. La Net Olsen, Mrs. Norma Child, Mrs. Gladys AVer-ett, AVer-ett, and Mrs. Lois Miller. Mrs. Louise Hjorth and Beth and Melva Miller were special guests. The next meeting will be held February 5, at the home of Mrs. Fern Crandall. i 1 BUSY CIRCLE CLUB MEMBERS ENTERTAINED Mrs. Blanche Nielson, with Mrs. Maude Nielson acting as assisting hostess, entertained Busy Circle club members and their husbands at her home Friday night. Progressive Neighbor was played, play-ed, after which a tasty lunch was served to Mr. and Mrs. Bert Brammall, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Lee, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Allan, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Allan, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Childs, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Bertelsen, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Phillips, Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Wen-dell Nielson, and Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Nielson. INFORMAL EVENING ENTERTAINS FRIENDS Mrs. Bernard Robertson was hostess to a group of friends Saturday Sat-urday night at her home. Cards were played with the prize for high score going to Harry Har-ry Ewing and the consolation prizes going to Mr. and Mrs. Norman Nor-man Tipton. Luncheon was served at midnight mid-night to the following: Mr. and Mrs. Harry Ewing? Mr. and Mrs. Norman Tipton, Mr. and Mrs. Crede Harmer, Mrs. Thelma Clark, and Mrs. Gertrude Clements. i KAPPA PHI LAMBDA TO MEET MONDAY Kappa Phi Lambda club members mem-bers will meet Monday night at the home of Helen Wright. Mrs. Jessie Dalton will give a talk during the evening on poetry appreciation. All members are urged to be in attendance. LADIES' LITERARY CLUB ENTERTAINED THURSDAY Members of the Ladies' Literary Liter-ary club were entertained Thursday Thurs-day evening at the home of Mrs. Hannah Clyde. Following the serving of a delicious deli-cious luncheon, Mrs. D. B. Welch gave a review of the book, "For Whom the Bells Toll," by Ernest Hemingway. " Calvin Clyde entertained with a patriotic reading and Norman Clyde gave a vocal solo, accompanied accom-panied by Mrs. Julia Sumsion. President Madge Thorn had the program in charge and announced announc-ed the next meeting for Thursday, February 6, at the home of Mrs. Paul Walker. Seventeen club members and two guests, Mrs. Anna Menden-hall Menden-hall and Miss Velma Mendenhall, were in attendance. Af With a winter carnival background, back-ground, members of the Novelty Circle and Booster clubs held their annual dinner and dance party Saturday night at Twin Pines. Dinner was served at tables set for groups of six, with red and white sweet peas centering each table. Novel, attractive dance programs pro-grams in the form of cotton snowballs, snow-balls, marked places for those in attendance. Program during the dinner included in-cluded toasts by Phyllis Boyer, Carma Crandall, Alice Riding, and Katherine Holley, and musical numbers were given by Mrs. Jack Cherrington, Don Humphrey, Bob Jenkins and Louise Clyde in the form of a violin solo, vocal solo, piano solo, and accordion solo, respectively. Jacqueline Senior was master of ceremonies and LaRhea Nielson was toastmaster. Patrons were Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Christensen and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Cherrington. LENORE BILLINGS FETED AT BIRTHDAY PARTY Complimenting Miss Lenore Billings, a birthday party was held Saturday night at the home of Misses Marion and Maurine Francis. Fran-cis. A beautiful birthday cake decorated dec-orated in pink and white was the central decorative piece and the following who attended presented Miss Billings with a lovely gift: Dorothy Long, Lillian Ostler, La-Dean La-Dean Bulkley, Eulalia Shomaker, Vera Bartholomew, Enid Ewing, and the hostesses. 1 DALE LONG HONORED AT BIRTHDAY PARTY On the occasion of his birthday. Dale Long was guest of honor at a birthday party held at his home Wednesday. A beautiful birthday cake decorated decor-ated in gold and blue carried the inscription, "Happy Birthday."
