Show PARKS OF UTAH SET RECORDS INPAST SEASON Attendance in Utah's national parks and at national monuments set new records during 1940, according ac-cording to a survey released Sunday Sun-day by the national parks service. The survey included the travel year ending September 30. Among the national parks, Bryce canyon recorded 103,362 visitors this year, compared with 101,500 for 1939. Zion park had 165,029 visitors this year, compared compar-ed with 158,063 for 1939. At the national monuments, the following figures were recorded, with the 1940 totals first: Arches, 2512 and 1775; Capitol Reef, 2000 and 1500; Cedar Breaks, 15,762 and 15,996; Dinosaur, 10,928 and 10,220; Hovenweep, 352 and 150; Natural Bridges, 901 and 1044; Rainbow Bridge, 215 and 175; Timpanogos cave, 12,021 and 12,060. The survey, covering the nation, showed that one of every eight persons in the country visited some unit of the national parks system during the year. Total attendance at-tendance was a million greater than in the preceding year. Travel to the 2 6 national parks, nucleus of the system, accounted for 7,-369,596 7,-369,596 of the 1940 total of 16,-741,855 16,-741,855 tourists. |
