Show Local Delphians Entertain At Meeting-Social An entertaining and educational meeting in connection with an annual an-nual social was given by members of the Mt. Maple chapter of the Delphian society Monday evening at the home of Mrs. C. G. Salisbury. Salis-bury. Mrs. M. R. Straw, president of the organization, welcomed the chapter members and guests and introduced Mrs. G. Ray Hales as the leader of topic discussions for the evening. Mrs. F. V. Martin gave an interesting inter-esting talk on the subject, "Background "Back-ground and Issues of World War No. Two." She quoted from the book, "Problems Of Peace", by Hoover and Gibson, outlining conditions con-ditions which would make for a lasting world peace. Ideologies, together with social and economical economi-cal conditions, must be taken into consideration in planning a lasting last-ing peace, she stated. The subject sub-ject was further developed by Mrs. Mark Johnson and Mrs. Earl Con-die, Con-die, each of whom gave timely and enlightening talks emphasizing emphasiz-ing the importance of planning now for a lasting peace. Following the talks, Mrs. Hales led in a discussion by the group of problems to be taken into consideration con-sideration in forming a world peace and supplemented the talks with quotations on the subject from leading magazines. Mrs. Maurice Bird entertained with piano selections and also accompanied ac-companied the group in community commun-ity singing at the beginning of the program, led by Mrs. Catherine D. Wills. A nicely arranged lunch under direction of Mrs. Mark Johnson was served at the close of the program pro-gram to approximately thirty-two members and guests. Lovely cor- sages emphasizing tne jjeipman chapter's colors of black and gold were presented to members and guests. Members, also during the evening, contributed a number of fine books to be sent to men in the armed forces, the project having been initiated through the National Nation-al Victory committee of Delphian. Members attending were: Mrs. M. R. Straw, Mrs. Catherine D. Wills, Mrs. G. Ray Hales, Mrs. Mark Johnson, Mrs. W. R. Edding-ton, Edding-ton, Mrs. Mary Smart, Mrs. Earl Condie, Mrs. F. ' L. Graham, Mrs. George Nelson, Mrs. F. V. Martin, Mrs. C. G. Salisbury, Mrs Charles Franks and Mrs. LeRoy Erickson, Mrs. Rea Straw, Mrs. Dean Straw, Mrs. Roslyn Peterson, Mrs. J. X. Gardner, Mrs. Arthur Condie, Mrs. Milton Hartley, Mrs. Abe Hartley, Mrs. F. C. Packard, Mrs. Tull, Mrs. W. H. Brown, Mrs. Maurice Bird, Mrs. C. E. Eggertson, Mrs. A. B. Morgan of Provo, Mrs. Mary Oakes were guests. Members unable to attend were Mrs. W. W. Clyde, Mrs. Roy Despain, Mrs. J. W. Grant and Mrs. B. M. Mendenhall. |
