Show Annual April Art Exhibit Is Canceled For Duration Of War Public Invited To View Paintings In Schools Permanent Collection And Also Those By Maurice Braun Now At the Gallery The Springville high school annual national art exhibit held each April since 1921, will be canceled this year due to restrictions on shipping, gas ration- Mng and tire shortage, it was announced an-nounced today by members of the art committee. The decision to cancel the exhibit exhib-it which annually attracted thousands thous-ands of people to this city during April, was reached at a meeting of the art board which is composed of the city mayor, a member of the school district board of education educa-tion and two members at large in addition to the art committee. Letters have been sent to artists throughout the country informing them of the cancellation and many have replied with a statement that they were fully in accord with the decision to cancel the exhibit at this time, and assure are committee commit-tee members of their cooperation when, the project is resumed. The public is, however, invited to view the paintings In the high school's permanent collection at any time. An added attraction to the permanent collection are the pain tings by Maurice Braun, which are to remain at the gallery indefinitely. This collection collec-tion is comprised of about thirty paintings and they in themselves well worth a visit to the art gallery, gal-lery, art critics state. The high school art committee is also having a catalogue printed to be ready by April 1, in which the paintings in the permanent collection col-lection are listed together with a biography of the artist and a story on how and when the paintings came into the possession of the school. The catalogue will also include a number of cuts of the outstanding paintings and sculptor sculp-tor work in the permanent collection. |
