Show 'CANNING PROJECT UNDERWAY FOR SCHOOL LUNCHES Farmers Asked To Bring Produce To Local Center To Be Processed A project to can approximately 1500 cans of fruit and vegetables to be used in school lunches next winter has begun here under direction di-rection of the P.-T. Farmers of the community are being urged to bring their surplus produce to the canning center, where it will be purchased and the amount applied on their children's school lunches or cash will be paid, President Clements said. Peas purchased from the local canning company are now being canned and later beans, corn, and tomatoes will also be canned. The work is being done by WPA labor and the children will be charged a few cents each day to help pay for the food consumed. Hot lunches at the grade and I high schools have proved very popular in recent years, with a large per cent of children who would otherwise eat cold lunches being served a hot dish each day. |
