Show Local Man To Take oArizona ride Mrs. Lula Tipton Metz of this city wishes to announce the engagement en-gagement of her son, Vernon, to Norma Russell, daughter of Mrs. Julia Russell of Mesa, Ariz. She attended schools in northern Arizona and was graduated from the Mesa Union high school. She is also active in L. D. S. church work there. Vernon is a graduate of the Springville high school and attended attend-ed Brigham Young university. He is at present training with the army air corps at San Antonio, Texas. The couple plan to be married in the L. D. S. temple in Mesa, Ariz., the exact date to be announced later. I LILLIAN THORPE WAS HOSTESS THURSDAY to We Readers at an enjoyable evening's entertainment. Mrs. Iris Orton reviewed the book, "Look to the Mountain," by LeGrand Cannon, Can-non, Jr., and refreshments were served by the hostess. Attending were: Mrs. Merle Packard, Mrs. Helen Thorpe, Mrs. Laura Alleman, Mrs. Helen Anderson, An-derson, Mrs. Mary Bird, Mrs. Naomi Na-omi Beardall, Mrs. Helen Strong, Mrs. Mamie Blackett, Mrs. Ruth Sumsion, Mrs. Geraldine Simmons, Mrs. Orton, and the hostess. MR. AND MRS. G. C. LANEY GAVE A DINNER SUNDAY at their home for members of their family in honor of their two sons, Lieut. Theon Laney and Russell Laney, both of whom were on a furlough here. Covers were arranged for Lieut, and Mrs. Theon Laney, Russell Laney, Mary Louise Wingate, Mr. and Mrs. U. F. Wood of Brigham, Mr. and Mrs. Fayne Laney, Mrs. Esther Weight, Leland Laney, and the host and hostess. ORRAL HUNTINGTON WAS HONORED with a birthday party given by Mrs. Huntington at their home Sunday evening. A delicious chicken supper was served early in the evening and later cards were enjoyed. Guests included: Corp. and Mrs. Joe Bullock, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Bills of Provo, Mr. and Mrs. Byron Tuttle of Payson, Mr. and Mrs. Elias Bowen of Spanish Fork, J. R. Norton and the host and hostess. THE GEORGE WILSONS ENTERTAINED AT DINNER at their home Sunday, for a number num-ber of relatives and friends. Covers Cov-ers were arranged for Mr. and Mrs. George Wilson, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Tom Averett and family, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley McCoy, and Mr. and Mrs. Eli Wilson. MRS. ALMA FULLMER GAVE A PARTY for her little daughter, Marie, on her ninth birthday. The guests en-; joyed games and refreshments and a beautifully decorated cake hold-j ing nine candles.
