Honoring Of Inductees And Airport Project Are Discussed At Open Session Plans for honoring inductees before be-fore leaving for training, the joint cooperation of Springville and Spanish Fork on the airport project, pro-ject, the distinguished service banquet ban-quet next Thursday night, and the possibility of sending the Springville Spring-ville Herald to all the local boys in the service, were discussed at the regular meeting of the Springville Spring-ville Junior Chamber of Commerce last Thursday evening at Memorial Memor-ial hall. The meeting, in the form of an open forum discussion, was "under the direction of President Grant Thorn. State President Ray L. Richards stated that in line with the special war activities set-up of the Jaycee organizations, a send-off for the local inductees would be a fine way in which to express the club's appreciation for their contribution to the war effort, and -he- -also suggested sug-gested that some way be worked out whereby the local paper could be sent to the boys in the service. President Thorn appointed a special spe-cial committee to care for this project. A report was given on progress being made by Springville to jointly joint-ly operate the ' present Spanish Fork airport. It was stated that this city had temporarily set aside $5,000 as an initial step toward this goal, and that a road from the Springville side was fast approaching ap-proaching realization. It was brought out in the discussion that it is imperative that the project be realized, as a post-war city without an airport would be almost entirely off the map in so far as commerce is concerned, as the present war is developing aviation to undreamed-of possibilities. It was also stated that through several sev-eral improvements at the present time, the facilities for training army and navy pilots could be enlarged with beneficial results. |
