Show C. of C. Continues Vorking for New Armory Building The Chamber of Commerce has been working for a new armory building in Springville, meeting with the adjutant general writing letters to Senator Watkins and making all other contacts possible possi-ble to obtain the building. Recently Senator Watkins answered ans-wered a request to , him for aid in securing the armory with a letter stating that money for a Springville armory would be available avail-able in the fiscal year 1955. This letter was received by J. A. Miller, chamber manager, to J. Wallace West, brigadier general, the adjutant general, who answered ans-wered as follows: "The present standing of the Armory Construction Program is that the bids were let for the Armory at Provo, and this involved involv-ed a considerable saving over the funds which were set up by the State, and the National Guard Bureau. I immediately contacted the National Guard Bureau, requesting re-questing a slight addition to their appropriation which would make it possible for us to go- ahead with the Vernal Armory. "Providing this is approved, it will step up the plan phase of armories throughout the State. "The National Guard Bureau is now studying the possibility of allocating funds to States which are in a position to match Federal funds, taking from those States at this time which are not in a position to go ahead with their Armory Program. , "Utah is now in a position to proceed with an armory program, and I am hoping that we can get to Springville, much sooner than it was originally thought possible." |
