Show "Lucky Accident" Here Marked Friday the 13th Friday 13th will long hold an ominous note to Garn C. Lloyd, 25, of RFD 1 Provo. He narrowly escaped death shortly after noon on Friday when his bread truck was struck by a freight train at the intersection of Eighth So. and Main in Springville. He escaped with a cut forehead, . however, and considers himself him-self lucky. According to Police Chief Henrry M. Weight, who investigated, in-vestigated, Mr. Lloyd applied his breakes when he approached approa-ched the intersection and saw the train coming. However due to the icy condition of the road, the truck skidded to the tracks and the motor stopped. Mr. Lloyd was unable to get the truck started but didn't get out because he thought because he though tit was far enough off the track to be safe. Meantime theengineer of the train, Dudley Gallagher of Provo and also the conductor, conduc-tor, C. D. Martin, Provo, saw the truck and slowed the train down. They didn't stop com- pletely because they felt the driver would succeed in getting get-ting it backed off the track, Chief Weight said. As the train passed, however, it caught into the grill work on the front of "the truck, spun it around and dragged it obout 40 feet. The train was brought to a stop about 400 feet from point of mipact. |
