Much work and several month's time have gone into the survey and compilation of material in preparation for the publishing of this Directory. To secure information for the booklet, a door to door call was made by Tom Oakes, son of Mrs. Mary M. Oakes, at homes in Springville and Mapleton. He was assisted in the early part of the survey by John Schofield of Salt Lake City. A total of approximat- ely 2135 families were contacted in the two cities. Aside from the survey, consid,er-! consid,er-! able other information and data I were collected. In answer to ques-! ques-! tions made by the men on the survey sur-vey it was found that 24 percent I of the families in these two towns ' received the Salt Lake Tribune i newspaper; 35 percent received the I Deseret Niews. 38.1 percent re-1 re-1 ceived the Provo Herald and 70.1 ! precent received the Springville Herald. Further, through a compilation of the material garnered on the survey, it was found that radios were on in 13.9 percent of the homes. This was arrived at as follows: 7.4 percent listening to radio station KSL; 2.8 percent to KOVO; 0.8 percent to KCSU and 2 percent to KEYY. All other stations sta-tions 0.9 percent. Contacts were made at the homes in the morning, afternoon and evening, the survey being made from 8 a.m., until 11 p.m. The survey further indicated there were a total of 832 T-V sets in Springville and Mapleton. At the time the survey was made, it was found that of the families in this area, 7.4 percent ver,e tuned to KSL T-V and 6.6 percent to KDYL T-V. With a directory in the home, family members will have little difficulty in determining the name of a person with such and such a phone number. It will be easy to locate where every citizen in Springville or Mapleton lives and to know their address and to know exactly who' lives at a certain address. ad-dress. The addresses of homes in Mapleton Maple-ton were determined by breaking down the distance into one-tenth of a mile from the church corner, which was used as a central point. Thus strangers looking into the directory may determine how far in what direction anyone in Mapleton lives from the church corner. This survey alone took : some time to determine the names of everyone in Mapleton and how far and where from the church corner each lived. The directory will be a valuable item to have in each home and it will be sent within the next few weeks to every Springville Herald ; subscriber, except servicemen. j Those who are not subscribers to the Springville Herald now, may ; get their name on the subscriber . list and by so doing receive a directory di-rectory within the next few weeks. |
