Show lenten fast is in the fifth canon of the Council of Nicaes in 323. lent, Now 40 Days, Once Was 40 Hours Lent is the great period of fasting fast-ing in Christian churches and begins be-gins on Ash Wednesday, which comes 40 days previous to Easter, not counting Sundays. Originally, lent was But a period of 40 hours, but later was lengthened length-ened to a period of 36 days, omitting omit-ting all Sundays and all Saturdays Satur-days except one.
