Show News from the Schools Brookside News... V,y Tyra IVuiR-lmiH and Karen Oldroyd, reporters Mason's room is studying about the solar "system and the sun's familv. They are going over to the BYU to look at the stars through the telescope there. Mr. j allier, who has been training in I this grade for the past term was ' honored by a farewell program last Friday. I Mr. Wilson's fifth grade had a party Friday for Miss Moore who i has been training in their room for the past term. They had a fine program and refreshments. Miss Moore expects to go back to her native Hawaii to teach next year. Robert Mansen from Mrs. Lewis' room has just returned from a trip to Topaz, Utah, with his father and uncle. While Robert was down ihere he found two arrow heads all by himself. He brought them to school and showed them to the children. We thought it was wonderful won-derful that in this new age of airplanes, air-planes, Robert could still find these relics of the past. Miss Hall's- foui':h grade has been studying about weather. They know about the weather belt around the world. They have a barometer which has been made by Miss Hall and the students. They use this to determine when storms are coming, and when the skies will clear following a s:orm. The two sixth grades are going to have 'a Saint Patrick's dance next Friday. A committee consisting consist-ing of Gary Cobbley, Gary Norman, Nor-man, Birdie Marsh, Charlotte Curtis Cur-tis and Bonnie Wing are doing the planning. Miss Baker's Third grade dyed some cloth in the room. They are new weaving marble bags, purses, and jackets and sweaters for their dolls. They are studying cloth and have divided into committees to report on various types of cloth. They have a committee for silk, for cotton, for wool and for rayons. In science they are studying about the sun and the stars. Reported by Jeff Winston. Miss Davis's room just finished studying about wool. They learned many things and made a mural of booklets. Deanna Bryan brought some wool cording combs. They washed the wool and corded it. The custodian, Mr. Bird, has promised pro-mised to bring one of his sheep down to school and shear it out by the kindergarten room so that the children can watch him and see how this is done. Then he is going to give us some wool to wash- and make up ready for cloth. |
