Springville high school students are participating in and seeing the results of democracy at work in school government this year, according to Principal Paul K. Walker. This year marks the third year of the. plan to give full representation represen-tation for governing and handling all school problems by students throughout the year in their activities. act-ivities. Through organizing and planning by officers of the school, the school year was begun with a more perfect working organization organiza-tion than ever before, Mr. Walker stated. ' The governmental set-up of the school includes the council and a representative of each of the home-rooms. The home - room representatives meet with the stu-dentbody stu-dentbody council once each month to bring the students' problems directly to the governing body for action. In turn each home-room is notified by the representative of the action taken by the combined body. . Such a meeting has already taken tak-en place on the campus and the council has set plans in motion to have students more effectively handle the problem of lootDau games this fall. The school lunch situation has been worked out more smoothly whereby students will be more courteous, fair and understanding; other current problems prob-lems of the school are taken up by the group. Principal W'alker stated that the purpose of the home-room organization is to "get problems back to the students and have them understand why we do things." Home room representatives have been elected for the year and they together with the council are listed as follows: Don Wratts, mayor; Packard Condie, judge; Elaine Erickson, secretary; Council: Coll-ette Coll-ette Palfreyman, senior representative; represen-tative; Lauren Bryan, junior representative; rep-resentative; Larsen Boyer, sophomore sopho-more representative; Paul Bird, Sharon Clayson, 1-year council-men; council-men; Kathleen Childs, 2-year councilman; coun-cilman; Marlin Giles, holdover |
