Show uon t Play With Sna, You Baboon! kes' 'Elder Dean Packard Sends Thanks; ' Tells Of Cities Visited On Mission a The first natural gas well in the state of Maryland to produce in commercial quantities was completed com-pleted recently near Oakland. The well yields a flow of 432,000 cubic feet per 24 hours from a depth of 4,500 feet. A pipe line has been laid to carry the gas to consuming areas. The Oakland area previously had been drilled unsuccessfully in a search for commercial gas production. Each week my companions and I look forward to receiving and reading the Springville Herald. It seems like we have little time for reading and studying, but we al-wavc al-wavc hnvp timp for the mail and In the movies, on the stage, on the radio in industry tne "star" shines only if the supporting support-ing players and the "producers are the very best in their line. the Springville Herald to learn what is happening "back home." We always like to see what is happening hap-pening in town, who is getting married, mar-ried, and how the Springville teams are coming in sports. It is a most worthwhile project that you have of sending the paper to the missionaries. mis-sionaries. The past year has been spent mainly in a little valley called Bella Coola, four hundred miles up the coast from Vancouver. We were very isolated there, the only possible pos-sible way out being a boat once a week or a long hike over the mountain to a road some 60 miles away. This valley is very picturesque, pictur-esque, having all the qualities you would imagine in the northland. Towering above the valley are snow - capped mountains with waterfalls tumbling down the rugged rug-ged and rocky slopes. Fir and Cedar Ce-dar trees border the forty-eight miles of road, opening in places to little clearings where the settlers have pushed back the forests. The people living there are wonderful, living in a world of their own. One certainly doesn't find the hustle and bustle so evident in the other parts of the world. I have now been transfered to Edmonton to work there. This is very different from Bella Coola, but the short time I have been here it has been enjoyable. This past week we held a street meeting as well as other meetings and it is certainly a rich experience. I am certainly thankkful for the opportunity oppor-tunity I have had to come on this mission. Well, it is getting late now, but I would like to thank you for sending send-ing the Herald. My new address is: 11429 94 St., Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Sincerely vours, DEAN W. PACKARD |
