Show LDS Elders Play A Basketball in Far-Off Australia a nows item of interest comes . the Spvtngvtllo Herald from two former athletes nt the high school, tilth of whom are now serving on ins missions in Astrnlla. The two vMors are Lelnnd D. Ford, son of Mr and Mrs. J. D. Ford and Elder Roiincv Burt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tivlor Burt. Both boys have been tive in basketball and they tell , letter form, their part in this sport. The letter follows: Elder Ford and myself are en-clostne en-clostne a photo of the Mormon Yankee basketball team which, for the last two months has been play-ne play-ne in the Victorian State Basketball Basket-ball Championships. We are doing hi, with the hopes of gaining fov-orable fov-orable publicity for the Church , and the missionary work. Already, the missionaries are meeting with several people who have become interested in the gospel through the basketball games each week. Last month the Mormons played the team which will represent Australia Au-stralia in the Olympic Games later In the year with the Mormons coming out the winners. In August, i we have been invited to play the Australian Olympic Squad once grain this time in Adelaide, South Australia as a return contest. To- wards the Unto of tho Olympics in Melbourne this coming November wo have- boon Invited to play the teams from several nations who will participate in the Olympiad. With theso gomes scheduled, we hope to gain quite a bit of favorable favor-able recognition in the months to come. Also, in league standings we are in first place. Members of the team include kldei- DeLyle Condie who played lor the University of Utah; Tlder Don Hull who played for the US-AC US-AC along with Elder David Kimball Kim-ball who played for BY high school the year Springville took the Class tournament and also plaved football for the BYU. Elder Ford and myself are also playing on the team. Elder Ford and myself have been laboring in the Mission Office together to-gether for the past 7 months and are enjoying the work very much. We greatly enjoy the issues of the Springville Herald and look forward for-ward to them coming to us. We receive them late but nevertheless we enjoy reading the news of our "Home Town" and of the progression progres-sion of Springville. Thank you for sending them our way.
