Show City Installs Pedalane Signs at All !Aaor Highway Crossings Here Twelve brand new pedalane signs are being installed in-stalled at safety hazard spots throughout the city as I a precautionary, measure initiated bv the citv. it was announced Wednesday, following the council meeting. Twenty-four signs have been ordered and others will be placed as soon os they arrived. ar-rived. ' Measuring approximately two by thrca feet, the signs are suspended on a cable and have the inscription, inscrip-tion, "Stop for Pedestrians". They are hung in pairs at the crossings at the high school on Fourth So.; at Main and Third South; at Main and Second South; at Main and First South and at Main and First North. The new suspended traffic signs will replace the pedestrian signs which were removed recently from the middle of the highway. These, city officials pointed out constituted consti-tuted a hazard and could have been responsible for accidents with the city liable. Officials also report that the state road commission has agreed to mark a pedestrian lane at a point from Safeways to the theatre on Main street and the city has also al-so asked the state to remark the lanes at the corner of Fourth ! South, Fourth East. These are somewhat out of place since the new traffic light was "installed, it has been pointed out. At the council meeting, the city also agreed to take advertising in the high school yearbook, at the request of the student delegation. However, officials did refuse to take a quarter page advertising from a Deseret News representa- j tive at a cost of $225. i |
