Show Practice Drills Begin For SHS Cagers; 35 Sophs Vie For Team Basketball at the high school is getting into full swing with the opening of practice drills Monday night under the capable tutoring of Coach Alma Gar-' rett who marched off with the Nebo district title in his first year as coach here last season. Back from last year's sauad will be Pete Carter, Duke Reid, Jerry Thorn, Lynn Crandall, Lauren Bryan, Jim Reid, Gary Gabbitas, and Brent Haymond. Whether all these players make the string this season or not is not certain at this early date, according to Coach Garrett. Lynn Crandall, who played play-ed semi-regular last season will definitaly be out of the lineup this year because of rheumatic fever.- Lost from the squad via graduation gradua-tion are Evan Francis, Allan Klauck, Mark Hoover and Marlin Giles, all of whom played on the state championship club two years ago. While it is. much too early to do any predicting as to the outcome of the club, the Red Devils are not going to be a rangy outfit and will have several Juniors working in for key positions. Monday night 35 Sophs and 25 Juniors and Seniors Sen-iors were vieing for squad positions. posi-tions. Practice will be curtailed for the remainder of the week because be-cause of the Harvest Ball and Monday night the club will begin workouts in earnest to round out a playing five for the first game scheduled for Dec. 4 with Lehi here. |
