Show Federated Music Club Holds May Meeting Music and the theater was discussed dis-cussed by Mrs. Virg Bird and Mrs. LaRell Johnson at the May meeting meet-ing of the Springville Federated Music club held Friday at the home of Mrs. Clarence Schreiver. Mrs. Johnson opened the subject sub-ject by a discussion of incidental music, which includes the suites. From Grieg's. "Peer Gynt", she asked Lucille Erickson to ' play Valse Triste, and from s Mendelssohn's Mendel-ssohn's "M idsummer Night's Dream" Annie Forshee played the Wedding March. Recordings from "Peer Gynt" were also, played. The story of music in the cinema cine-ma was traced by Mrs. Bird who added interest to her talk by telling tell-ing of her own experiences as pianist pian-ist in the days when background music was used for the silent films. Mrs. Bird also told of her visit to the modern TV and film sets and how the music is arranged. From ;modern Russian show "Alexander Nevsky" she had Mary Parker play Prelude by Prokofieff . Miss Parker also played "Mood Modern" from the current American composer, Melvin, who does a great deal of composing for a New York television tele-vision company, by way of background back-ground music for shows and commercials. com-mercials. Track records from some modern shows were played, for the interest of the group. Refreshments were served by' the hostess at the close of the program, which marks the last meeting of the season for the club members. |
