"Ed" Long of Orem, today announced he will seek the Republican nomination for the post of Utah County Assessor in this fall's election. Mr. Long has been deputy business busi-ness assessor on the county assessor's as-sessor's staff since 1947. The candidate has been a resident resi-dent of Orem and Pleasant View most of his life. In addition to his activities as deputy county assessor, asses-sor, Mr. Long is a farm owner and co-owner with his wife, the former Lucile Hundley, ,of the Long Fruit Stand in Orem. Mr. Long is a member of the Utah Farm Bureau and has held offices in that organization. He is a member of the Orem Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce, currently hold- : ing the post of chairman of its business committee. He is a mem- i ber of the Orem Lions Club and Lodge No. 14, IOOF. As a member of the Pleasant ' View Ward, Mr. Long was chairman chair-man of the Boy Scout troop committee. com-mittee. He now resides in the Ver- I mont LDS Ward where he is a former teacher in the Sunday School. The candidate's business experience exper-ience includes the post of assistant assist-ant manager for eight years of the E. C. Olsen Company, a box manufacturing firm. He also organized org-anized the Wasatch Chemical Co. and was its manager for eight years in Utah County. Mr. Long is a graduate of the International Correspondence Correspond-ence School of Scranton, Pa., in business administration and accounting. ac-counting. The candidate today declared that his experience in the county assessor's office during the past seven years has well qualified him for the top post in the office.
