Show Prizes Awarded To Floats in July 4th Parade To the Veterans of Foreign Wars with their beautiful patriotic pa-triotic float representing Flanders Flan-ders Field with white crosses, went the first prize of $50, awarded award-ed by the National Guard, .sponsors .spon-sors of Springville's Fourth of July celebration. Second prize went to Peay's Market, a unique entry in the form of a birthday cake for Uncle Sam topped with the Peay's pretty daughter Sally and golden birthday candles. Friels and Andersons tied for the third prize of $15. Both were large floats representing much forsight and effort in design. The National Guard entered a striking float on which was seen Miss Springville (Glida . Ann Packard) together with her attendants, at-tendants, Sharon Clayton and Jeanine Wightman and Delores Hutchings, the National Guard "Sweetheart." Judges for the parade were C. O. Claudin, Theron S. Hall and J. F. Wingate, all of whom had a difficult time to make a decision on the many beautiful float entries. en-tries. In addition to the parade, the Guard sponsored a program of children's sports, entertainment and refreshment concesions during dur-ing the day. Ben Holley of Ogden was awarded the 700-pound beef given away by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. |
