Show CARL R, GRAY FOUND DEAD WASHINGTON, May 9 il'.n) Carl R. Gray, former president and vice chairman of the Union Pacific Railroad, was found dead in his bed at a Washington hotel today. Death was attributed to heart disease. Gray, 71 years old. had been vice chairman of the road since his retirement as president because of age. He was senior member and spokesman for President Roosevelt's Roose-velt's management-labor committee commit-tee of six. The hotel where Gray was staying stay-ing said he had dinner with a son, Carl Jr. last night. The son was said to 'be en route to Chicago unaware of his father's death. Another son, Russell D. Gray, was summoned when the death was discovered. Gray was one of the nation's most prominent rail executives. He had devoted the major portion of his time in recent months to the work of the joint rail committee which devised a comprehensive plan for railroad rehabilitation which is now under consideration by congress. Gray's body was discovered by his secretary, who went to his room to call his attention to an early morning appointment. |
