Show Activities Of City Sports NED CHILDS Sports Writer The Softball crave of the country coun-try has begun in most of the cities and towns. In most of the towns in this state League games are already under way. Springville Spring-ville will play in the Utah Central League this summer, with some of the finest teams in these parts. Teams playing in this league are Heber, Spanish Fork, Payson, Nephi, Eureka and Springville. The Springville team has been practicing for two weeks with a great deal of fine talent participating. partici-pating. Manager "Pat" Ward is very pleased with the men that have come out to practice and hopes that more men that want to play will come out and participated par-ticipated in the game. Players that hav come out to practice are as follows, (catchers) Tim Marsh, Melvin Dunkley, and Van Paten; (pitchers) Ed Wiess, Lamar Roylance, Gordon Pierce. "Skinny" Fullmer and Hoyt Baxter; Bax-ter; (infielders, "Bet" Weight, DeVere Weight, Bernell Jensen, Deb Dudley; Clarence Smith, Dean Paxman and Glen Hansen; (outfielders) (out-fielders) George Bird, B. Watts Bert Cherrington, Veil Jensen, Wilford Mower, Reese Mower, Lee Miner and "Red" VanLu-ven. VanLu-ven. League games will begin next week with Springville playing its first games away from home. Next Tuesday the team will journey jour-ney to Eureka for its first game and to Nephi May 10-19 for the second game. The first league to be played here will be Tuesday night May 23. Since this is the first game there should be a lot of support from the town. During the next two weeks with Springville playing away from home the city will havt- , plenty of time to get the local diamond in good shape for it's first league game. It is going to take a lot fo work and anyone that would like to help, come out and do so. The local team played a practice prac-tice game last Tuesday night with Curley's Lunch of Spanish Fork to the tune of 15 to 7 for the local team. Ed Weiss a new comer in town has been pitching some nice ball so for. This boy has got a lot of curve on the ball and promises he will be a hard man to hit. He showed plenty of speed and action in the first three innings in-nings of the game Tuesday night and wa-s relieved in the fourth when Manager Ward sent Tabby Roylance in. Roylance and "Skinny" Fullmer are also going to be hard men to hit.
