Show Charles Ross, Kidnaped in 1874 Living in Phoenix PHOENIX, Ariz., May 9 (U.R The verdict of an Arizona court held today that . the long-lost Charley Ross, kidnaped in 1874, has been found and is living in this city. He is Gustav Blair, a lank, 69-year-old carpenter, who has faint childhood memories of being held prisoner in a cave. A jury of cattlemen and merchants mer-chants took only eight minutes in Maricopa county superior court to return a verdict for Blair in a strange lawsuit he brought to establish his identity as Charley Ross. Blair sought no money, but only r, recognition. He named as defendants defend-ants the four other Ross children ; of Germantown, Pa., who have refused to recognize him as their ; brother. The kidnaping of Charley Ross 65 years ago stirred the country as only the Lindbergh case has donee since. Charley was 4 years of age. With hte brother Walter he was adbucted while playing in the family yard. The other brother was freed but Charley was held for ransom. His father. Christian K. Ross, agreed to pay the $20.-000 $20.-000 that was demanded, but not until the boy was produced. He never saw Charley again. |
