Dr. and Mrs. Fred Bringhurst and little son have returned to their home in Los Angeles, Calif., after a short visit with Mr. Bring-hurst's Bring-hurst's mother, Mrs. J. F. Bringhurst Bring-hurst and other relatives and friends here and in Spanish Fork. George Marian Nelson of this city and Clara Alexander of Spanish Span-ish Fork, were granted a license to wed Monday- at the county clerk's office, Provo. Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Webster (nee Marie Kindred) and family of Solomonsville, Ariz., have spent the past week with the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Kindred Kin-dred in Springville. Mr. Webster who is employed with the federal soil conservation department, has been transferred from Arizona to St. George, Utah, and the family will make their home there soon. Jay and Hal Kindred of Twin Falls. Idaho, are spending the week with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Kindred. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Smith and son spent the past week end with relatives in , Rock Springs, Wyo. They were accompanied to Rock Springs by Mr. Smith's mother, Mrs. Janet Smith, who has been visiting with her son and family. On their return they were accompanied by Nettie and Matt Anderson, who will spend two weeks here. Mr. and Mrs. Elmo Webster of Rexburg, Idaho, were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. John R. Kindred. Mrs. E. R. Wtebster and children accompanied them to Rexburg and will spend a short time with relatives there. Mrs. Alton Packard entertained a number of friends from Rock past week. Mr. nnd Mrs. T. L. Mend spent a few days in Springville this week. They were accompanied to their home in Boulder City, Nev., by their son, Elwood Mead, who has been staying with an aunt, Miss Zina Johnson, here and attending at-tending the B. Y. U. the past year. Complimentary to Mrs. Hazel Latimer, who is resigning her work in the Third Ward Relief Society, a social was held by members at the ward hall Wednesday Wed-nesday afternoon, replacing the regular meeting on Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jensen and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Armstrong of Idaho Falls, Idaho, visited Monday Mon-day at the J. R. Kindred home. They were enroute to the Manti temple celebration. Miss Helen Clegg gave a birthday birth-day party at her home on Monday Mon-day night. Miss Dona Salisbury, bride-elect was the complimented guest at a party given by MrSV Margaret Conover at her home last Thursday Thurs-day evening, for members of the Val Norn alumnae. A tasty luncheon lunch-eon was served first, the tables being arranged with garden roses. A beautiful silver Val Norn tray was presented the guest of honor and bridge was enjoyed. Miss Lucille Lu-cille Skinner won high score favor. fa-vor. Val Norn songs were sung and other music enjoyed. Salisbury, assisted by Mrs. Jesse Whiting entertained a large group of relatives and friends at a nicely arranged shower at the home of the former on Monday Mon-day evening. The entertainment featured a delightful 3-act play, by Miss Virginia Lee of Provo. A delicious luncheon was served by the hostesses. Byron Duane Williams of Springville, and Eva LaVern Finch of Spaifih Fork, were issued a marriage license at the county clerk's office last Friday night. Donald Ford of Cedar City is spending the week with his aunt, Mrs. A. E. Jacobsen. Mrs. G. A. Dunsdon of Glenwood Springs, Colorado, has returned to her home after spending a week with her sister, Mrs. A. E. Jacobaen. Mrs. Floss Johnson, Mrs. Emma Gardner and Mrs. Catherine D. Wills were guests of Mrs. Alene D. Price at a nicely arranged luncheon at her home in Provo last Thursday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. D. B. Welch and Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Johnson spent the week end on a tour of the Wayne wonderland. Members of the Ladies Literary club were entertained Thursday at the home of Mrs. C. G. Salisbury. Salis-bury. Following a lesson on English, Eng-lish, conducted by Mrs. Hannah Clyde, Mrs. Emma Jacobsen gave two papers on the life of Lily Pons and Kristen Glagstad. Officers Offi-cers elected were Mrs. Rea Straw, president; Mrs. Lela Packard, vice president; Mrs. Mae Groes-beck, Groes-beck, program chairman; Mrs. Manilla Brown, secretary. Mrs. Lucy Robertson and Edith Nash left recently for the Hawaiian Hawai-ian islands to spend the summer. They will visit Mrs. Robertson's son, Hilton, president of the Japanese Jap-anese mission, and Mrs. Robertson Robert-son and children, also Miss Georgia Harmer, grand daughter of Mrs. Retta Robertson and daughter of Mrs. Retta Robertson Robert-son of this city. They will return in time for Miss Nash to resume her school work in the fall. Mrs. Buleah Whiting and daughter Venice, left Saturday for a three-months tour of Europe Eu-rope with Arthur Gaeth, Provo tour leader. One of the lovely social events of the season was the marriage of Fred R. Blackett, son of Mrs-Hattie Mrs-Hattie R. Blackett, of this city, and Miss Margaret Weber, daughter daugh-ter of Reverend and Mrs. E. L. Weber, Los Angeles, Friday, June 3, in St. Columbia chapel on Wilshire boulevard, Los Angeles. An-geles. The ceremony was performed per-formed by Reverend Boyd, dean of the church, in the presence of about 200 friends and relatives. BrMesmaids were Miss Catherine Brodrick and Miss Lillian Talim. Mrs. Marian Royal sister of the bride, was matron of honor; little Maren Mead was flower girl. Jack Gillis was best man and iLloyd Mead and Ernest Rickey, fri'ends of the groom, ushers. Following the wedding a reception re-ception was tendered the young couple at the South Sea room of the Clifton cafe. The bride and groom are spending a short time in Utah on their wedding trip and will leave soon to make their home in Los Angeles. Mrs. Orrol R. Huntington has returned from a three weeks' visit with relatives in Denver, Colo. One of the enjoyable parties of the past week was that of the Novelty Circle, Friday night. The girls went to the lake where games and a lunch were enjoyed. They later assembled at the ball park to watch the Softball contests. Bishop Leo G. Robertson of the Fourth ward, performed the ceremony in the presence of immediate family members and close friends. The young couple plan to make their home in Springville. In their honor hon-or a numt'sr of social events are planned for the coming week. Mrs. Jesse Salisbury of this city, announces the engagement of her daughter Dona, to Ferdie D. Peterson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Peterson of Richfield, the marriage to take place Friday, June 17, in the Salt Lake temple. Following their marriage, the couple will leave on a wedding trip to the Northwest and down the coast to California. They will make their home in Eureka. Miss Salisbury is a graduate of the B. Y. U., where she was also affiliated with the Val Norn social unit. She has been a teacher in Nebo district schools. Mr. Peterson Peter-son is a graduate of the University Univer-sity of Utah and recently returned from an L. D. S.. mission to Germany. Ger-many. Mrs. Ella Whiting Wade of La Grande, Oregon, was a Springville visitor during the week end. She spent Saturday night as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Crandall and also visited her brother, John L. Whiting, and other relatives. She came to Utah especially to attend the June convention in Salt Lake City. Mrs. Audrey Rowland and son Reed, who are visiting here from San Jose, Cailf., accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Bert Rowland and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Binks to Thistle Saturday where they spent the evening as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Max Senior. The Home Culture club will entertain en-tertain at the first' of a series of summer parties at the home of Mrs. Elmo Coffman in Provo, on Friday. The affair will be in the form of a' bridge breakfast to begin at 12:30 p. m. The party will also honor club officers of the past two years. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Binks of Ogden, spent the past week end with Mr. Bink's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Binks and other relatives in this city. Miss Effie Kelsey, instructor at the Friendly Seminary, New York City, is spending Tier summer vacation va-cation with her mother, Mrs. Se-lina Se-lina Kelsey. Miss Velma Mendenhall has returned to her home here from a year's study of social service work in St. Louis, Mo. |
