Show ' WORK BEGINS AT GANNERY S . Harvesting of the early pea crop contracted by the V. R. 5 Eddington and company canners, Springville, began Wednesday afternoon, af-ternoon, according to Charles Fry, field manager. A total of 375 acres in Spring- ville, Mapleton, American Fork ' and Lehi have been contracted by the local company. This amount is about one-third less than the total pea acreage con-i con-i tracted last year. The early pea crop is expected to be harvested within about two weeks, when work will begin on the later variety. Canning will furnish employment to about 200 local people, it is stated. The cannery has also contracted l! about 15 acres of tomatoes, a decrease de-crease of about 10 per cent from last year's acreage; about 161 acres of corn, which is slightly more than was contracted in 1937, and about 20 acres of beans will be included in this year's canned 1 crops. |
