Show BOY DROWNS IN SALEM LAKE SPANISH FORK Funeral iicrvices for Herald Olsen, 16-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbcrt OIhcii of Spanish Fork, who drowned drown-ed Mumlay at 3:30 p. m. in Salem lake, will be held Thursday after-, noon in the Fourth L. D. S. ward chapel with Bishop David Bowen ofliciating. Friends may call at the family home after Wednesday night and prior to services Thursday. Interment Inter-ment will be in the Spanish Fork clly cemetery under direction of the A. Y. Wheeler and Sons iiHirtuary. According to the report of the accident, Derald and three companions, com-panions, Everett Bearnson, 17, Mark Chappie and Clair ,Hlu.cl, both Hi, had gone swimming and boat riding in Salem lake. Mark and Clair went swimming near the bridge, and Everett and Derald, with their swimming suits on, remained in the boat, nearer the head of the lake. Derald decided de-cided to get in the water, and hang from the rear of the boat. Suddenly he dropped under water, and did not come up, the boys reported. re-ported. Efforts of the companions to recover the body failed, and Lhey ran for assistance. Douglas Cole, who had received his life saving badge but two weeks before, be-fore, finally found the body and brought it to the surface. Dr. J. W. Hagan, Spanish Fork and Dr. A. L. Curtis, Payson, applied ap-plied artificial respiration, and Clarence Duke of the Provo fire department rushed the resuscita-tor, resuscita-tor, which has saved several lives, to the scene, but efforts to revive the boy proved futile. Dr. Hagan said the lad had a weak heart and the cold water probably brought on an attack, causing him to sink. Derald was a sophomore at Spanish Fork high. He was born here March 25, 1923. He was active ac-tive in scout work. Curviving besides be-sides his parents are one sister, Dorothy, four brothers, Max, Lynn, Ferris and Jerry, and a grandmother, Mrs. Sena Olsen. |
