Show WPA LAY-OFF RULE OPPOSED SALT LAKE CITY, Aug. 9 (C.K 1 R. L. Nicholson, Denver, regional region-al WPA administrator, enthusiastically enthusi-astically supported the 130-hour feature of the new relief bill in a visit here Tuesday. He criticized just as severely the provision requiring re-quiring discharge of all workers employed over a period of 18 months. Nicholson said that despite strikes and other protests in many sections of the country following enactment of the 130-work hour-week hour-week intermountain division workers work-ers accepted the increased hours with few complaints. "I'm convinced the 130-hour rule has been of benefit to the program increasing the efficiency efficien-cy of projects and lowering costs," the regional director said. Nicholson charged that workers discharged under the 18-month regulation were thrown directly to state departments of welfare because "there isn't any private employment to absorb them." |
