Show OPERA TERMED OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE The Springville high school will present its annua! opera, "The Chocolate Soldier" Thursday and Friday nights, in the auditorium. The performance is set for 8 p. m., with the curtain to rise at 8:15 o'clock. Termed one of the most beautiful beau-tiful and outstanding musical performances per-formances ever attempted by the school, the opera will be given the first evening especially for students, and on Friday for adults. Approximately 135 students are cast in the various parts of the opera and all have put every effort along with those in charge to make it a production long to be remembered. The opera is a combination of romance, heroic deeds, comedy and lilting melodies. These elements ele-ments have been combined by ; George Bernard Shaw and Oscar j Straus to make it one of the : most pleasing operas ever to be presented. It is a difficult production pro-duction and one more often , chosen for presentation by colleges. col-leges. i However, those who attend, will undoubtedly he highly im-I im-I pressed with the fine talent exhibited ex-hibited by students taking part. Nadina, a daughter of Colonel .Popoff will be taken by Melba Merriott and Virginia Bird; The Chocolate Soldier, Ferron Heat-on; Heat-on; Aurelia, wife of Colonel Pop-off, Pop-off, Buleah Whiting; Mascha, Aurelia's cousin, Jettie Jacob; and Tess Cherrington, Macsak-roff, Macsak-roff, a captain in the Bulgarian army, Joe Salisbury, and Harold Whiting; Stephen, a servant to Colonel Popoff, Allen Bird; Louka, a servant, Yvonne Child; Major Ma-jor Alexius, Sparidoff, Grant Clyde; Casimir Popoff, Dale Leichty and Reed Jones. j In addition to these, there will be officers, soldiers, flag bearers,. Bulgarian armymen, townspeople, townspeo-ple, peasants, dancers and chorus. ! members. ! j Carl O. Nelson is directing the opera; Bernice Park, the dramatics; dra-matics; L. Waiter Peterson, the orchestra. Wayne Johnson and A. E. Jacobsen have charge of the scenery; Dorothy Shirtleff, the costumes and Ida Hoffman, the dancing. Merle Fletcher is student director. |
