Show Stores And Schools to be Closed Until Noon; C. of C, Kiwanis to Help In response to a proclamation issued by . Mayor A. O. Thorn designating Monday, March 27. as city cleanup day, schools and business houses will be closed until 1 p. m., so thftt everyone may join in the city-wide campaign cam-paign to improve the appearance of this city by cleaning up yards and premises. It is desired that everyone rake their yards and clean up all debris collected during the winter win-ter months, and haul it to the public dump grounds. While' is has been a practice in the past to haul debris to the street for city trucks to remove, this will not be done this year. Every citizen is asked to remove their own garbage and not leave it in the street. A practice Ty a few of carrying carry-ing ashes and other debris to the street where in most cases it is scattered to various parts, will not be tolerated in the future, fu-ture, and anyone found carrying trash to the street will be prosecuted. prose-cuted. Such a practice is not fair to those citizens who constantly try to make the city a more attractive attrac-tive and desirable place in which to live and also draws much ' criticism from visitors to our town. Mayor Thorn asks that an inspection in-spection be made by every citizen citi-zen in the community of his own yard or corral, to see if some improvement can be made thereby. there-by. It is suggested that corrals be cleared and cleaned thoroughly, thorough-ly, especially in cases where they are in close range of streets, walks or public places. Also in many cases the pluming plum-ing of trees or shrubs might be helpful In obstructing from view, unsightly or uncared-for outbuildings out-buildings which might not otherwise other-wise be improved. In every case, however, every citizen is asked to exercise a patriotic spirit and to do their part in beautifying the town, and after Monday, also try to keep it clean. The members of the Kiwanis club and Springville chamber of commerce will begin the day's activities with a brenkfast held in the Memorial hall fit 7 o'clock a. m. The meeting will hvs in charge of M. W. Bird, president of the Kiwanis club. Mayor A. O. Thorn will act as toastmaster. |
