English Blockade On German Goods Effective Monday BY FREDERICK Kill LONDON, Nov. 2S iU!i-Great Britain's blockade on German exports ex-ports will go into effect Monday, it was reported today from a reliable re-liable source. I he blockade was formally invoked in-voked today, with publication in the official gazette and all neutrals neu-trals including- Italy and Japan, despite their angry protests, were being- notified that German goods ore henceforth barred from the seas. British warships in all seas are standing by for the admiralty's code signal starting the blockade. Preliminary instructions already al-ready have been sent all warship war-ship captain. 'You will have power to confiscate confis-cate and impound all goods of German origin no matter in what ' ships they are carried or where-ever where-ever they are bound," they read. "You will not sink or shell these ships. You will inspect the cargo then escort them gently but firmly firm-ly to the nearest base." In a few days, the order will go to all ships by radio and all shore stations by telegraph: 'Seize all German "exports." Italy, Japan Protest It will be a thorough blockade Cargoes will be examined minutely minute-ly and a shipment of linen made from flax grown in Germany, for instance, will be contraband. Many new contraband control bases will be established in the Mediterranean, the Far East, the British Isles and France, to handle the seized cargoes. It is estimated $250,000,000 worth of exports, or 30 per cent of German's normal foreign commerce, com-merce, will be affected. France is invoking an identical blockade.
