Show 'M' Men Basketball Games Open Thursday Eight Teams From Ten Stakes Enter Olsen Announces Schedule for First Night's Games, Slated in Spanish Fork Gym; Championship Game Saturday The opening whistle of the Provo Division M Men basketball tournament will be sounded Thursday Thurs-day night at 6:30 in the Spanish Fork high school gymnasium when the Spanish Fork Second ward, host team of the meet, and Nephi North ward, wil ltangle. Schedule for the first day, announced an-nounced today by LeRoy J. Olsen, president of the division, is as follows: fol-lows: G:30 Spanish Fork Second vs. Nephi North. 7:30 Lake View vs. American Fork Fourth. 8:30 Heber First vs. Lindon. 9:30 Manavu vs. Springville First. On the second night, Friday, the four winners of the first night's games will be matched and the four losers, another four games being slated. There will be two games slated Saturday, the first one starting at 7:30 when the two clubs which lost Thursday Thurs-day but win Friday, will clash for the consolation titlQ. The championship cham-pionship game will follow: Teams have been divided into two brackets. In the upper brack-, et are Manavu ward of Utah Stake, Spanish Fork Second of Palmyra stake, Springville First of Kolob and Nephi North of Juab stake. Manavu and Spanish Span-ish Fork Second were seeded. In the lower bracket are Lake View ward of Sharon stakeHeber First of Wasatch stake, Lindon ward of Timpanogos stake and American Fork Fourth of Alpine stake. Lake View and Heber First were seeded. Lake View won its seeding by means of a surprise victory over Springville First ward, two-time champions, in an inter-stake playoff. play-off. The Springville club is almost intact from last year except that Leonard Harward, ace guard, is no longer with the team. Heber First showed power by defeating the American Fork Fourth ward 40 to 29 last Friday at Heber City. The American Fork club in a game Monday night, conquered the Lehi Fifth 34 to 23, with Anderson Kelly and Conder starring. Officials for the meet include LaVere Shurtliff, LaVar Kump, Pete Olsen and Vera Waldo, all of Provo. Walt Hier will be timer and Elisha Warner, Spanish Fork, and LeRoy J. Olsen, Provo, will be scorers. The tournament is in charge of the Provo division officers, Mr. Olsen, Eugene Hillman of Payson and Roy Johnson, Provo. A moderate admission charge is being made. |
