He suggests wheat farmers get the follow-information follow-information ready now: number of bushels grown each .-ar from 1930 to 1932. ' Kuniber of acres of wheat plant-jj plant-jj or the crop of each of these vfars. ' Au that is needed is the total mber of bushels of wheat grown '1 each farm. It all counts in a farmer's total production for the jrpose of the wheat program, ffbether It has been spring or winter win-ter wheat. If a farmer has moved from one farm to another in the jiree-year Perid, ne should make s separate record of the wheat rown on each farm. If he has op- , ,rated more than one farm, he tuould ls0' have tne Information jor each of them. By using elevator, ele-vator, freight, threshing or bank cepos'it records, the administration believes that each farmer can get accurate estimates. Each farmer will later be asked (or the records on past production sju) number of acres planted to heat in the last three years. The county association will use these to determine each farmer's allotment allot-ment Figures turned in by each farmer are to be published in the local press. Director Peterson emphasizes . that the allotment to each county is computed from official records at Washington U. C, and is all the county cun get. It is up to the farmers, through their county association, as-sociation, to divide It fairly among themselves. lor further information consult a county agent or write to the extension ex-tension service office at Logan. CKAB GRASS IN LAWNS If there are any small dry spots in the lawn they are caused by crab grass, according to Prof. J. C. Hogenson of the Utah State Agricultural Agri-cultural college extension service. Where there are only small fective way to getting rid of it is patches of crab grass, the most ef-by ef-by hand-pulling, Professor Hogenson Hogen-son says. The roots are very shallow shal-low and it is easily pulled. Some persons, however, eradicate crab grass by raking carefully and vigorously vig-orously with an iron-toothed rake and then cutting the remaining grass with the lawn mower set real low. Crab grass matures in early July, but there is nearly always some seed that matures and branches below be-low the level of the mower blades. Fall application , of manure to the lawn will stimulate the growth not be applied until after the first of the better grasses, but it should frost, which may kill the crab grass seed. If manure is applied in the spring, the application should be made early to stimulate the better lawn grasses to early growth before be-fore the crab grass germinates, which is usually late in May or early in June. |
