Show Discrimination Is Charged By Counsel For Corporations Legislature Goes Into Committee of the Whole To Conduct Hearing On Proposed Pro-posed Rail, Gas and Power Levy (Special to The Herald) SALT LAKE, July 19 The special session of the Utah legislature convened in committee of the whole today for a public hearing on the proposed utiiity tax bill. The measure proposes excise levies on railroads, electric power, gas and telegraph companies. G. H. Mulcahy, president of the Utah-Idaho Central railroad and representing- three electric lines in Utah, attacked at-tacked a proposed tax of $4 a mile on intrastate roads. He said he doubted the measures would be constitutional, inasmuch as his line would be taxed $4 a mile while a parallel line would pay only $1.50 a mile. V. W. Ray, representing the Utah Gas & Coke Co., objected to what he termed 'discriminatory taxation against t he gas company." Ray claimed his company already was paying more laxea than any competing utility. Meanwhile machinery was being organized for speedy passage of repeal legislation, expected to be introduced after Governor Blood puts resubmission on the agenda in a message scheduled to be delivered de-livered today.
