Show BLOOD ASKED TO DISMISS UTAH WARDEN Petition Presented By 24 Residents Living Near Prison SALT LAKE CITY, Nov 18 Immediate ousting of 11 E. Davis, warden of the Utah state penitentiary, by Governor Gover-nor Henry H. Blood, was asked in a petition filed Saturday Sat-urday by 24 persons living in the immediate vicinity of h,, prison. "We feel that a change of wardens war-dens would improve conditions the prison," it stated. "The prison, ers are dissatisfied. They are ui. set. always planning an outbreak and, as citizens residing in the im-mediate im-mediate vicinity or the prison, we feel a change should be made. "We respectfully petition yom board to investigate the Improve-nient Improve-nient of these conditions.' Governor Blood is chairman of the state board of directions, which administers prison affairs. He was to be presented the petition peti-tion upon his return from the prison, where he attended the monthly meeting of the pardons board Saturday. It was expected the petition would be brought before the board of corrections at its next regular meeting December 6. Although mentioning no .specific break as the reason, the petition apparently was a result of the escape es-cape of Robert Earle on November 11. Reports that a petition was being be-ing circulated among residents near the prison were heard earlier this week. Warden Davis at that time disclosed he had heard such ! reports and declared, "I'm not mar-j mar-j ried to this job." i He said that if the board of cor-j cor-j rcctions feels a change is needed, , he would "gladly step down." i Signatures on the petition were i headed by that of Ezra Hody.son, 2127 Thirteenth East street.
