Show WINTER WORK IS ASKED FOR The possibility of breaking thj Deer Creek and Utah Lake projects pro-jects down into units, for the purpose pur-pose of putting men lo work on ' these before the contracts are , let on the major structures which 1 will not be before spring, is being investigated by Congressman J. , W. Robinson in Salt Lake and ; Senator William H. King in Wash- ington. -enator King has asked the reclamation rec-lamation bureau to suggest some program to make it possible to relieve the relief lists and the CWA projecas to some extent. f the idea is held to be practical, the senator will ask Secretary Ickes to wire Reclamation Commission- , er Mead, when he arrives at Boise next Monday, to proceed to Salt Lake City after the reclamation congress and confer with Chief Engineer Walters and other field engineers of the reclamation service ser-vice and take initial steps to get woi k going. ; With the unemployment situation situa-tion acute, everything that can be done to put men to work will help that much to relieve the load carried by other reliefi agencies. It is thought possible that much tunnel work can be done during the winter on the Deer Creek and Sanpete projects. It may also be found feasible to do some work on the Utah lake dyking project during the winter months, the period of low water. |
