Show Boulder Dam Workers Idle LAS VEGAS, Aug. 11 (U.P) Although Al-though some 1200 workers of the Boulder dam water and power project pro-ject were still idle today, officials of the Six Companies, Inc., contractors, con-tractors, Indicated that work on the huge project would be under way shortly despite previous statements state-ments that they were six months ahead of schedule and could afford to cease temporarily. Most of the workers who went on strike Saturday in protest against a cut in wages, had accepted accept-ed their pay checks today after announcing an-nouncing they would refuse them. W. H. Wattis, president of Six Companies, declared that while a shutdown of six weeks or two months would be beneficial to the j company, it was not desirable from financial standpoints because of 1 the trouble of dismissing and rehiring re-hiring 1500 men.- Wattis, in his statement, declared his company was paying the highest high-est wages of any contracting firm in the country, averaging 50 cents an hour. |
