Show Tomato Harvest Is Under Way Owing to the continued hot weather the tomato crop in the vicinity of Springville is maturing faster this year than usual and the Springville Canning factory began the tomato season Monday, according accord-ing to W. R. Eddington, manager. Careful grading of tomatoes as they come from the fields to the cannery is urged by Mr. Eddington. who also states that tomatoes must be well ripened. Inspection of the fields show considerable damage by grasshoppers, grasshop-pers, according to Agricultural Inspector In-spector Earl Hutchings, who recommends that poison bait be used in infected fields. With the aid of recent storms and cooler weather, the majority of growers anticipate a large crop of good grade tomatoes. |
